French-Caribbean carrier Air Caraibes has become the European launch customer for the A350-1000.
Airbus has announced that Air Caraibes, a French-Caribbean airline, will take ownership of the first three A350-1000 aircraft in Europe.
The launch customer will operate the A350-1000s, the largest versions of the A350 XWB (extra wide body) family, on routes from Paris to the islands of Guadeloupe, Martinique and French Guyana.
All three aircraft will be configured in a three class formation with a total of 440 seats, and will join two A330-200s and one A330-300 already being operated by the carrier, along with three A330-300s currently on order.
"The A350 XWB will continue the track record of spectacular efficiency and low operating costs we already experience with the A330", said Jean-Paul Dubreuil, president of Air Caraibes.
"Aircraft commonality, which is unique to Airbus aircraft, will allow our pilots to transition efficiently to the A350 XWB. Most importantly, this aircraft assures lowest fuel burn, which perfectly matches our growth strategy," he added.
Earlier this month, the CIT Group signed a firm contract for ten A320 Family aircraft, to bring the total number of Airbus orders from the commercial finance company to 199.
