Air China orders 747-400 BCFs
Wednesday, 05 November 2008

The Chinese airliner has ordered three 747-400 converted freighters from Boeing.

The Boeing Company has announced that it will convert three 747-400 commercial passenger jetliners into freighters for Air China Cargo.

The Chinese carrier is hoping to add the three Boeing Converted Freighters (BCFs), which were previously operated by Air China, to its cargo fleet.

Modification work on the three aeroplanes will take place at Taikoo Aircraft Engineering in Xiamen, China.

Yao Jun, president of Air China Cargo, said: "We look forward to our Boeing 747-400 BCFs being of the same high quality as the factory-built freighters we operate.

"Since Boeing is responsible for the modification, we know that these aeroplanes will receive the superior customer support that we have come to expect from Boeing."

Among the list of modifications to be conducted are side cargo door additions, installation of a strengthened main-deck floor and provisions for a new cargo handling system. All aircraft systems will also be completely overhauled.

The announcement was made just as Boeing issued a forecast that world air cargo will grow at an annual rate of 5.8 per cent over the next two decades, with air freight traffic increasing three-fold between 2007 and 2027.ADNFCR-1516-ID-18861124-ADNFCR
