AirAsia X takes delivery of A330
Monday, 03 November 2008

Airbus has delivered an A330-300 to the Malaysian airline.

Low-cost long-haul carrier AirAsiaX took delivery last week of its first new A330-300, Airbus has revealed.

The aircraft was handed over to the airline following a special ceremony at Airbus headquarters in Toulouse. It is the first of 25 A330-300s that AirAsia X has on order.

The planes will be used on long-haul routes with the aim of linking Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur with destinations in Australia, north Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

AirAsia X's new acquisition is powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines and will be able to transport up to 383 passengers in a two-class configuration; with 355 seats in economy and 28 and XL premium class.

Tom Enders, president of Airbus, said that the A330 provides "proven passenger appeal" and the lowest costs of any mid-size widebody aircraft in service, making it perfect for low-cost long-haul travel.

"The delivery of the first A330 for AirAsia X marks another milestone in the close partnership between Airbus and the AirAsia Group," he added.

Last month, Croatia Airlines signed a firm contract for four A319s in addition to the eight A320 family aircraft that it already has in operation.ADNFCR-1516-ID-18855788-ADNFCR
