Airbus has selected Diehl/Thales as the preferred bidder for its Laupheim site, as the aircraft manufacturer looks to build a network of partners.
Airbus has officially selected European aerospace group Diehl/Thales as the preferred bidder for its facility in the German city of Laupheim with the organisations now set to negotiate the remaining details.
The Airbus plant in Laupheim employs a total of 1,100 employees and produces cabin linings, compartments and air ducts for all of the manufacturer's A320 family, A330/A340 family and A380 aircraft.
"Through the acquisition of the Laupheim site, Diehl and Thales intend to further expand their cabin activities, thus becoming leading global suppliers in the field of aircraft cabins,'' the German Defence and French electronics companies said in a joint statement.
The decision to sell the facility is part of the Power8 plan, which will enable Airbus parent EADs to build a network of partners while focusing its resources on core activities.
Under the terms of the agreement, Dieh/Thales will remain a strong tier 1 supplier to Airbus, sharing workload, investment and risk with the plane maker, while also developing new business opportunities.
