The Boeing Company has received an order from American Airlines for an additional 26 NG 737-800s aeroplanes.
American Airlines has placed an order for 26 next-generation (NG) Boeing 737-800 aircraft, as it looks to accelerate its fleet renewal plans.
Some 20 of the 26 new orders are options that the carrier has exercised, while the other six are part of American Airlines' 2009-2010 fleet plans which were announced at the beginning of this year.
In total, the airline has ordered 36 Boeing 737-800s this year. As well as the new orders, it has also reached an arrangement with Boeing to accelerate delivery of planes booked in previous years.
"Boeing and American Airlines have enjoyed a partnership that spans more than 50 years - back to the beginning of the commercial jet age," said Ray Conner, vice-president of sales at Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
"These additional Next-Generation 737s will enhance American's fleet with newer, more efficient airplanes - lowering fuel costs and lessening the environmental impact of flying."
This month, the Boeing Company announced completion of work on the first BBJ3, a new, large business jet based on the Boeing NG 737-900ER (extended range). |
