American Airlines has revealed that it is going to buy 42 Dreamliners
American Airlines has announced that it has agreed to buy a large number of Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.
In a statement released today (October 15th), the company revealed that it will be initially purchasing 42 of the 787-9 aircraft.
Delivery is scheduled to start in early 2012, finishing six years later, but the purchase is "subject to certain contingency provisions".
American Airlines also has the right to purchase up to 58 additional 787s, which can be ready for delivery over a five-year period starting at the beginning of 2015.
Gerard Arpey, chief executive of American Airlines' parent company AMR, said that the new agreement highlights the firm's determination to be a long-term success.
He commented: "Fortunately, our agreement with Boeing, our long-time partner, allows for significant flexibility to manage our fleet replacement and growth plans in the way that best meets all of our stakeholders' interests."
US-based American Airlines was founded in 1930 and is the largest carrier in the world in terms of passenger miles transported. |
