Arik Air orders A340s
Wednesday, 01 October 2008

A private Nigerian airline has ordered three Airbus A340-500 aircraft.

Airbus has announced the receipt of a new firm order for three A340-500 jet aircraft from Arik Air, a rapidly expanding private airline based in Lagos, Nigeria.

The order is the tenth to be received by Airbus for the new A340-500, a member of the A330/A340 family of jets capable of transporting 250-375 passengers over the world's longest commercial air-routes.

The new planes will be used on new routes to London, New York and Houston, following the delivery of all three aircraft in November 2008.

All of the aircraft are powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 500 engines, which provide operational economics and flexibility during ultra-long-haul non-stop flights.

John Leahy, Airbus chief operating officer for customers, commented: "With the A340-500 offering outstanding performance, range and unparalleled levels of passenger comfort, I look forward to the start of our partnership. We support their development in and outside Africa."

Airbus recently announced that it will be exhibiting parts from its A380 (nose cone), A320 (wing), A300 (forward section) and A340 (vertical stabiliser) jets on the Champs-Elysees and the Place de la Concorde in Paris between October 4th and 12th.

The exhibit is to mark the centenary of the French aeronautical industry.ADNFCR-1516-ID-18806797-ADNFCR
