A joint venture between Lockheed Martin and VT Group has won a contract to provide military flying training to the UK Armed Forces for the next 25 years.
Ascent, a co-venture between aerospace company Lockheed Martin (LM) and defence contractor, VT Group, has signed a contract to provide military flying training to the UK Armed Forces for the next 25 years.
The initial contract is valued at £635 million, a figure that is projected to rise to £6 billion over the duration of the programme.
Under the terms of the agreement, Ascent will manage the UK Military Flying Training System (UKMFT) programme, providing comprehensive training for all military aircrew in the Royal Air Force, Royal Navy and Army Air Corps.
Dale Bennett, president of simulation, training and support at LM, said: "UKMFTS is a model private-public initiative that will enable us to work with the Ministry of Defence for the next two and a half decades, providing tailored solutions that will optimise the capabilities of UK aircrews."
Ascent will work with the Ministry of Defence during the course of the contract to design, deliver and manage ground and flying training at locations across the UK.
