Monday, 08 September 2008

Bombardier has announced the sale of four Q400 NextGen turboprop airliners to Austrian Airlines.

Austrian Airlines of Vienna has signed a contract to purchase four Q400 NextGen turboprop aircraft from Bombardier Aerospace and has taken out options on an additional two, it has been announced.

The aircraft will be operated by Tyrolean Airways, the regional operator of the Austrian Airlines Group. Based on current list prices, the contract is valued at $118 million (£69 million), a figure which could rise to $179 (£101 million) if both options are converted to firm orders.

Tyrolean Airways, which began operations in 1980 with a single Havilland Dash 750-seat turboprop aircraft, now possesses a fleet including 12 Bombardier Q300 and 10 Q400 turboprops, as well as 12 CRJ200 LR regional jets.

"In today's challenging environment, fuel efficiency is vital," said Manfred Helldoppler, managing director of Tyrolean Airways.

"The Q400 NextGen airliner's low fuel consumption contributes to its low operating costs and reduced emissions. In addition our passengers will benefit from the aircraft's all-new spacious and comfortable passenger cabin."

Meanwhile, Bombardier has announced strong financial results for the second quarter of 2008. IT revealed consolidated revenues of $4.9 billion (£2.8 billion), up from $4 billion (£2.3 billion) for the same three-month period last year.ADNFCR-1516-ID-18768382-ADNFCR
