BAE Systems delivers Hawk advanced jet trainer
Tuesday, 26 August 2008

BAE Systems has joined with HAL to celebrate delivery of the 15th Hawk advanced jet trainer to the IAF.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has received its 15th Hawk advanced jet trainer (AJT) from BAE Systems and its industry partner Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL).

It is the first of 42 Hawks to be built under license by HAL and follows 14 jets which have already been delivered to the IAF by BAE Systems.

The Hawk AJT, which was assembled in India, will join the fleet of UK-built BAE Systems Hawks that have already been put into service training new IAF pilots at air force station Bidar.

Michael Christie, senior vice president of Hawk International at BAE Systems, said: "The Indian Air Force has selected Hawk as the ideal platform for training its next-generation of frontline pilots.

"The handover of the first Hawk trainer assembled in India by HAL is a significant milestone for the IAF and everyone associated with the programme."

BAE Systems provides a range of aviation and defence services to customers around the world. In 2007, its sales exceeded £15.7 billion.

Earlier this month, the company signed a contract with Columbian carrier Fly SA for the delivery of five Jetstream 41 regional turboprop airliners.
