BAE Systems starts flight testing on the first RSAF Typhoon
BAE Systems has flown the first Eurofighter Typhoon fighter equipped with the two-tone grey livery of the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF).
The flight market the beginning of an initial test-flight programme for the fighter aircraft, which BAE Systems is assembling at its Warton facility in Lancashire.
The warplane is one of 72 Typhoons that the Saudi Arabian government ordered from the UK last September, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two countries in December 2005.
Eurofighter is being designed and built by a consortium made up of BAE Systems, Alenia Aeronautica and Airbus parent company Eads.
Series production of the Eurofighter Typhoon is currently in its second phase. The fighter jet is currently operated by the Royal Air Force, the German Luftwaffe, the Italian Air Force, the Spanish Air Force and the Austrian Air Force.
BAE Systems is currently in talks with Saudi Arabia to create a partnered support approach to the RSAF's acquisition. This will allow for the development of an Typhoon engineering and manufacturing presence in the Middle Eastern country. |
