BAE Systems has won a contract to develop next-generation DEWS for international F-15s.
The Boeing Company has awarded British defence company BAE Systems with a lucrative contract to provide next-generation digital electronic warfare suites (DEWS) for future international versions of its F-15 multirole fighter.
BAE Systems was selected following a prolonged source-selection competition, and will develop the DEWS as a follow-on procurement for existing F-15 customers, as well as an optional upgrade for new international customers.
Mark Bass, vice-president of the Boeing F-15 programme, explained that the upgrade would help the F-15 to continue its "multirole supremacy" for decades to come.
"BAE Systems' Digital Electronic Warfare Suite will greatly improve the F-15's aircrew situational awareness, self-protection and electronic countermeasures capabilities," he said.
Boeing claims that retrofitting the DEWS onto an existing F-15 is not only possible and practical, but will also provide enhanced performance, reduced logistics requirements and notable cost-savings over the lifetime of the aircraft.
Earlier this month, BAE Systems began flight tests on the first Eurofighter Typhoon to be built for the Royal Saudi Air Force. |
