Wednesday, 28 May 2008

The Boeing Company has delivered the first of six Boeing 747-400ERF aircraft to Cathay Pacific Airways.

Aircraft manufacturer Boeing has delivered the first of six Boeing 747-400ERFs to Cathay Pacific Airways, following a public unveiling and pre-flight ceremony at the Boeing Delivery Centre in Washington.

The 747-400ERF is a Freighter aircraft which first entered service in October 2002, and has a maximum takeoff weight of 910,000 pounds (412,770kg).

Powered by Pratt & Whitney PW4062A engines, the new aircraft will be deployed on routes throughout North America.

Cathay Pacific operates some 115 aircraft, 18 of which are Boeing freighters. These include six 747-400BCFs (Boeing Converted Freighters), six 747-400s and six 747-200s. The airline also has orders on a further two 747-400BCFs and ten 747-8F freighters.

This week, Boeing announced an agreement with Italian technology company Finmeccanica, for the joint pursuance of opportunities in the international trainer aircraft market.

Under the agreement, Boeing Integrated Defence Systems' support systems division will provide logistics support, training and product support in international markets for the M-346 and M-311 fighter trainers, designed by Alenia Aermacchi.
