Boeing providing continued C-17 support
Tuesday, 07 October 2008

The US Air Force has renewed a contract with Boeing for the provision of C-17 Globemaster III support.

The Boeing Company has been awarded with the first phase of a new three-year US Air Force (USAF) contract to continue providing support to its fleet of C-17 Globemaster III airlifters.

Under the terms of the C-17 Globemaster III Sustainment Partnership (GSP), Boeing will work closely with USAF to manage sustainment activities for the aircraft with through-life support.

As well as aircraft modifications and upgrades the performance-based logistics (PBL) contract also accounts for individual spare parts, field support, depot-level maintenance and supply-chain management.

This first-phase is worth $514 million (£295 million), with the total value of the completed contract expected to be in the region of $3 billion (£1.7 billion).

Gus Urzu, vice-president of Boeing's air force integrated logistics division, said: "This contract marks the end of a very successful decade of C-17 support and the beginning of a new chapter in the GSP programme's life."

Alongside the USAF, international C-17 customers from the UK, Australia, Canada, Qatar and a consortium of Nato countries also take part in the GSP programme.
