The aerospace company flew an aircraft equipped entirely electric brakes.
Bombardier Aerospace has successfully completed the first flight and landing of a test aircraft fitted with an all-electric braking system, a first in civil aviation.
Over the course of seven hours of testing, the aeroplane was successfully landed five times and also conducted a series of high-speed brake ground runs.
The Bombardier demonstrator was equipped with the EBrake system developed by specialist Meggitt and Messier-Dowty's landing gear with electric brake wiring harnesses.
"We tested the Ebrake system's normal, emergency and park braking functionality during both ground and flight tests," said Gary Bruce, test pilot in command of the flight.
He concluded that the system provided improved braking control in normal and emergency operating modes and a tighter centreline control even during maximum braking.
Francois Caza, vice-president of the aviation company, added: "This successful first flight highlights Bombardiers commitment to the advancement of aviation technology."
Earlier this month, Bombardier showcased its new CRJ900 next-generation airliner at trade show Indian Aviation 2008. |
