The government of Brazil has requested a possible sale of 15 UH-60L Black Hawk helicopters.
The United States Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified congress of a possible sale of 15 UH-60L Black Hawk helicopters to the Brazilian military.
As well as the helicopters, Brazil ha also requested 32 T-700-GE-701C engines; external and internal fuel tanks, hoist kits, spare and repair parts; tools and support equipment; personnel training, engineering and technical support services.
If all options and aftermarket services are exercised, the total value of the proposed contract could be as high as $525 million (£297 million).
Brazil has requested the aircraft to meet its strategic commitments for self-defence and search-and-rescue in the South American region. The procurement will improve its air mobility capability.
The UH-60 Black Hawk is a medium-life utility and assault helicopter built by Sikorsky and derived from its own twin-turboshaft engine, single rotor S-70.
Since it was introduced into service in 1979, over 2,600 of the helicopters have been built. |
