Tuesday, 07 October 2008

Brit Air has signed a contract to acquire six more CRJ1000 NextGen airliners from Bombardier.

Bombardier Aerospace has announced receipt of a new order from Brit Air for six Bombardier CRJ1000 NextGen jetliners.

The firm orders were upgrade from options purchased in February 2007, as part of an order for eight CRJ1000 aircraft. Based on current list prices, this new contract is valued at $299 million (£171 million).

Brit Air, a subsidiary of Air France, is one of three launch customers for the new aircraft.

Although the CRJ1000 NextGen jetliner is not scheduled to enter service until late 2009, Brit Air has already ordered 15 of them. Its fleet also includes 15 CCRJ700 regional jets.

Marc Lamidey, chief executive of Brit Air, explained: "Bombardier's CRJ aircraft provide an excellent combination of performance, operating economics and passenger comfort to meet our needs."

Since the plane was launched in February 2007, Bombardier has received 38 firm orders and 23 options for the CRJ1000 NextGen. The aircraft manufacturer claims that its latest jet offers better performance than the rival Embraer E-190.ADNFCR-1516-ID-18814730-ADNFCR
