Britain considers sale of Eurofighter Typhoons
Thursday, 28 August 2008

The RAF is in talks with various countries regarding the sale of several Eurofighter Typhoons.

Britain is considering the sale of several Eurofighter Typhoons as the planes are proving too expense to maintain.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has been involved in talks with various countries, including Japan, India and Saudi Arabia, reported the Financial Times.

The Royal Air Force is due to take delivery of 88 Eurofighters, having already ordered 144 as part of two earlier contracts.

However, if it reneges on the contract by cutting down the number order or cancelling altogether, it will face tough monetary penalties.

As such the RAF is seeking out a potential buyer or buyers to take on part or all of the order.

Officials have said that the talks are still in the early stages.

The RAF is due to buy another 88 Eurofighters as part of its membership of the Eurofighter consortium along with Italy, Spain and Germany.

Currently, the MoD is struggling to cope with a deficit budget estimated to be around £2 billion.ADNFCR-1516-ID-18752833-ADNFCR
