Eads North America has delivered the first two UH-72A helicopters to the US Army National Guard.
European aerospace corporation Eads has delivered the first two UH-72A Lakota Light Utility Helicopters to the US Army National Guard, where they will be deployed into the 1/114th Service & Support Battalion in Tupelo, Mississippi.
The aircraft will be used in homeland security and counter-drug operations, and will operate from Tupelo Regional Airport. They are the first of 200 UH-72As being delivered to the Army National Guard over the next decade.
"Today's UH-72A presentation to the Mississippi Army National Guard marks an important milestone for EADS North America as we meet - and exceed - our company's commitments to those in uniform who protect America and ensure its national security," said David Oliver Jr, executive vice president of Eads North America.
The helicopters were the 28th and 29th UH-72As delivered by Eads North America, which is set to replace aging OH-58 and UH-1 rotary-wing aircraft. Eads - The European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company is the parent organisation of plane manufacturer Airbus.
Earlier this year the US Air Force awarded a large contract to Northrop Grumman (NG) for aerial refueling tankers, with Eads chosen as a major subcontractor. NG and Eads will build a fleet of 179 planes, modelled closely on the existing Airbus 330.
