Eastern Airways has enhanced its aircraft fleet with the introduction of two new Saab 2000 planes.

Eastern Airways has enhanced its aircraft fleet with the introduction of two new Saab 2000 planes.

The regional UK airline already services 18 domestic and European destinations and is likely to expand its route network following the roll-out of the two new jets.

It has signed a lease agreement with the Swedish aircraft manufacturer, with the first aircraft due to be delivered on December 3rd and the second on December 15th.

Chris Holliday, Eastern Airways' chief operating officer, commented: "The Saab is ideally suited for our domestic and European network along with our charter programme and is the right choice for further route expansion into Europe.

"It is an extremely flexible aircraft as it can be used on both short and long runways and can also fly to eastern European and Mediterranean destinations due to its range and fast cruising speed capabilities."

The Saab 2000 has a cruising speed of 425 mph, making it one of the world's fastest turbo-prop aircraft.
