Embraer 170 certified in Japan
Friday, 07 November 2008

Embraer has received certification for its E-170 in Japan.

Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer has received certification in Japan for its E-170 jet.

Following the decision by the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau, carrier Japan Airlines (JAL) will become the first customer to operate the E-jets aircraft in the country.

The airline received its first E-170 in October, and is now expected to enter it into active service shortly.

Frederico Fleury Curado, chief executive of Embraer, said that the certification represents an "important milestone" in the history of the Embraer 170/190 family of jets.

He added: "We already have two E-Jets customers in the country and we anticipate good growth perspectives for our products over the coming years."

As well as JAL, Suzuyo & Co also acquired two E-170 jets. The model will make up the initial fleet of Fuji Dream Airlines, which will operate out of the new Mt Fuji Shizuoka airport when it begins operations next year.

Over the next 20 years, Embraer expects global demand for 30 to 120-seat commercial aeroplanes to rise significantly. It projects that some 1,270 jets will be required in this segment.

This week, Embraer won an award for its contribution to cutting aviation emissions at the Aviation Expo 2008 in Egypt.ADNFCR-1516-ID-18864420-ADNFCR
