Eurofighter Typhoon reaches flight milestone
Monday, 15 September 2008

The Eurofighter Typhoon combat aircraft has reached a new milestone, surpassing 50,000 hours of flight.

Air forces in Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria and the United Kingdom have amassed more than 50,000 hours of flight with the Eurofighter Typhoon multi-role aircraft, it has been announced.

According to Eurofighter, the combined efforts of the five air forces and the industrial Flight Test programme helped the fighter jet to reach the milestone.

The manufacturer explained that, by the end of August, 5,900 hours had been logged by the Eurofighter test fleet, while the air forces had collected 44,500 hours, enough to easily surpass the 50,000 mark.

Aloysius Rauen, chief executive of Eurofighter, commented: "This latest milestone is a recognition of the dedication of the flight crews and engineers across the air forces and the industrial test and evaluation teams."

Eurofighter is a joint-venture between the UK's BAE Systems, Airbus parent company EADS and Italy's Alenia Aeronautica.

It designs, produces and upgrades the Typhoon aircraft, incorporating jet engines built by its EuroJet Turbo subsidiary.
