F-22 team wins PBL award
Tuesday, 04 November 2008

The F-22 Raptor PBL team has been recognised by the US department of defence.

Employees from Pratt & Whitney, Boeing and Lockheed Martin have been recognised for their contribution to the success of the F-22 Raptor stealth fighter aircraft.

The Raptor's performance-based logistics (PBL) contracts team - which is made up of members from these aviation companies - was awarded with the 2008 PBL system level award by the US secretary of defence.

The accolade was provided in acknowledgement of the successful partnership that exists between the government and industry at the system, subsystem and component levels of the F-22 project.

Tyler Evans, Pratt & Whitney programme director for F119 - the engines used to power the Raptors - said: "We are truly honoured to stand with the entire F-22 PBL team and have our efforts recognised by our customer."

Pratt & Whitney's F119 engines have logged more than 85,900 successful in-flight hours and share a technological legacy with the F135 engine that is currently powering the new F-35 Lightning II joint strike fighter (JST).

Last week, the engine manufacturer announced reception of a $78 million long-lead production contract to build seven conventional take-off and landing and seven short-takeoff/vertical-landing F135 engines for the JST.ADNFCR-1516-ID-18858319-ADNFCR
