GE Aviation has taken orders for 206 jet engines from customers in China.
Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (Comac) has now taken orders for 206 of its ARJ21regional jets.
The first commercial jet aircraft indigenous to China, the ARJ21 is powered by General Electric's (GE) CF34 engine.
Over the next 20 years, Comac estimates that it will receive orders for as many as 850 ARJ21 regional jets, representing potential engine revenue of up to $4 billion (£2.5 billion) for GE.
To date, more than 4,200 CF34-powered regional jets have been delivered to various airlines around the world. GE Aviation predicted that its CF34 engine fleet will surpass 8,600 units by 2018, based on the current strong demand.
GE Aviation is currently the largest aero-engine supplier to China, having supplied power to more than 1,000 airliners now operational in the country through its Commercial Aviation Services division and CFM International, a 50/50 joint venture with Snecma.
Recently, the company - part of the third largest multi-national in the world - opened a new jet engine component factory in Mississippi. |
