Harris has won a contract to provide the helicopters of the US navy with data links.
The international communications firm Harris has been awarded a contract to provide data links for US Navy helicopters.
The $53 million contract will see Harris specifically develop the Ku-band Common Data Link (CDL) Hawklink system for the Navy's MH-60R Airborne Multi-Purpose System helicopter.
Hawklink is a high-speed digital data link which is capable of transmitting tactical video, radar, acoustic and other sensor data from MH-60R helicopters to their host surface ships.
Wes Covell, president of Harris Defence Programs, said of the deal: "We are very pleased to continue the production and testing of the Hawklink system, enabling delivery of most advanced intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance networking data links to the Navy."
The Hawklink system can also transmit over distances greater than 100 nautical miles at data rates of more than 21 megabits per second. The system should also eliminate interference and improve fleet interoperable communications.
In July this year, Harris was also awarded a $9 million contract to provide Aircraft Cockpit DMC for the US Navy.
