Boeing has completed its takeover bid for Insitu, the unmanned air systems (UAS) developer.
Airline manufacturer Boeing has completed a takeover of unmanned air systems (UAS) developer Insitu, it has been announced.
Insitu, based in Washington State, USA, manufactures "high-performance, low-cost" UAS used in intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.
Boeing now plans to utilise Insitu as a separate subsidiary under Boeing Integrated Defence Systems' Military Aircraft unit.
In a statement, Boeing said: "[Insitu]
will retain an independent operating model while benefiting from Boeing's vast resources.
"This acquisition
is part of a larger plan to increase Boeing's presence in the unmanned systems market."
Boeing's Integrated Defence Systems is one of the world's largest defence businesses, with 71,000 employees worldwide and a turnover of $32.1 billion.
UASs are increasingly being used by both commercial companies and military organisations, due to their strong surveillance capabilities.
The airline manufacturer Boeing has recently seen a large number of workers on strike, with the company expecting these actions to last for the next month or so.
