Japan Airlines has announced its intention to retrofit its entire fleet of Boeing 777 jetliners with the Boeing Class 3 Electronic Flight Bag.
Japan Airlines International (JAL) announced this week that the airline will install its current and future fleet of Boeing 777 aircraft wit the Boeing Class 3 Electronic Flight Bag (EFB), an information device allowing flight crew to flight management tasks more efficiently.
Following a validation trial, the Boeing Class 3 EFB, which is being fitted by 80 per cent of customers in their 777 fleets, will be installed on all 40 of JAL's 777s in service, beginning April 2009.
"The Boeing Class 3 Electronic Flight Bag is a key aspect of our vision for future operations," said JAL vice president of flight operations engineering, Mitsuo Koga. "EFB allows us to create a link between our airplanes and ground teams and helps us to be safer and more efficient in our operations."
The airline is scheduled to receive three more 777-300ERs in 2008, all of which will have the EFB installed.
To date, more than 1,080 777s have been ordered by 56 different global customers. Last week, Boeing delivered the International Lease Finance Corp its 75th 777. The Boeing 777-300ER (Extended Range) is to be leased to Cathay Pacific Airways.
