Friday, 03 October 2008

AgustaWestland has received an order for 16 helicopters from the Kanematsu Corporation.

Japanese firm Kanematsu Corporation (KC) has ordered 14 AW109 Power light twin helicopters and two AW Grand twin-engine helicopters, AgustaWestland (AW) has announced.

KC is a representative of the helicopter manufacturer in Japan, and has acquired the helicopters with a commitment through to 2011 on behalf of several law enforcement agencies in the east Asian country.

Through the lucrative partnership, AW has so far received orders for 21 AW109 Power helicopters, in addition to this latest contract. All helicopters will be used for law enforcement.

Giacomo Saponaro, senior vice-president of international government business at AW, said: "This latest order is further evidence of the rising success we have experienced in the Japanese helicopter market in recent years.

"We are delighted to further strengthen our partnership with Kanematsu Corporation and we are committed to building on the success already achieved by offering the best solutions for future rotorcraft requirements in this country."

To date, more than 460 AW109 Powers have been ordered by commercial and government organisations in 50 different countries.

Last month, AW sold the first AW119 Ke single-turbine helicopter featuring a Versace-styled interior to a private customer in Russia.ADNFCR-1516-ID-18810191-ADNFCR
