Learjet 85 composite structure to be manufactured in Mexico
Friday, 30 May 2008

Bombardier has announced that its facility in Mexico will take over manufacturing duties for the composite structure of all its new Learjet 85 business jet aircraft.

Corporate aircraft manufacturer Bombardier has announced that manufacture of the composite structures used in its new Learjet 85 business jets will take place at its facility in Queretaro, Mexico.

The plant will also be responsible for manufacturing electrical harnesses and installing sub-assembly systems, while final assembly, interior completions, flight test and customer delivery will take place at its Wichita facility, in the United States.

Jean Seguin, vice president of engineering at Bombardier Aerospace, said: "With our facility in Queretaro, we continue to expand our manufacturing capacity while increasing the efficiency of our operations.

He added that the composite manufacturing capacity being gained at the plant in Mexico would complement the firm's 40 years of experience in advanced composite technologies.

The new Learjet 85 was launched in October 2007, and will be the first Bombardier aircraft to feature an all-composite structure when it enters into service in 2012.

Earlier this month, Bombardier delivered the first of four Q400 turboprop airliners to Croatia Airlines, following the placement of an order in June 2007. Croatia Airlines holds options for two further aircraft.
