LM modernises of Romanian air defence system
Wednesday, 29 October 2008

Lockheed Martin has completed installing an air defence system upgrade for the country.

Aviation and defence company Lockheed Martin (LM) has completed installation of a new air defence and communications network for the Romanian Air Force.

The modernisation project, which was completed by LM along with several Romanian subcontractors, enhances the command and control capabilities of Romania's Air Sovereignty Operations Centre.

Not only does it extend the air space management system's voice and data-link communications, but the upgrade also features an improved radar system to provide enhanced air surveillance over the entire country.

"This project provides the Romanian Air Force with significantly improved situational awareness as well as modern command and control capabilities that are interoperable with other Nato assets," said Rick Udicious, vice-president of tactical systems business for LM.

Last week, LM UK received the prestigious Supplier Performance Award from air navigation services provider Nats.

This marks the second year that Lockheed Martin has been honoured as Nats' top supplier for meeting supply chain management performance targets.ADNFCR-1516-ID-18849551-ADNFCR
