Lockheed Martin has been awarded with a contract from the United States government to build Advanced F-16 jet fighters for Morocco.
The United States government has awarded manufacturer Lockheed Martin (LM) with an Undefinitised Contract Authorisation (UCA) for the production of 24 Advanced F-16 Block 52 aircraft for Morocco.
The country, the 25th nation to select the F-16, will acquire special F-16C/D aircraft sporting customisations to meet the needs of the Royal Moroccan Air Force (RMAF). The contract also includes aftermarket services including the provision of mission equipment and a support package.
"We are pleased the RMAF selected the F-16 to modernize its fighter force and look forward to working with them as the newest member of the F-16 family," said John Larson, vice president of Lockheed Martin Aeronautics' F-16 program.
"The F-16 provides the Kingdom of Morocco with the world's most affordable and technologically advanced multirole fighter available today, with the added benefit of interoperability with the U.S. Air Force and many other air forces."
The LM F-16 Fighting Falcon is a lightweight multirole fighter that was originally developed by manufacturer General Dynamics. It was first introduced into service in 1978, since which some 4,200 have been built. The F-16C/D was introduced in 1998.
