AgustaWestland will deliver three AW139 helicopters to the MMEA.
The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has signed a contract with AgustaWestland for three AW139 medium twin engine helicopters and options for several more.
The helicopters will be deployed on search and rescue missions, as well as coastal patrol and law enforcement operations along Malaysia's long coastline.
It is the first time that a Malaysian government agency has ordered the AW139, which is operated by coast guards and border patrols in Japan, Korea, Spain, Estonia, Italy and the UK.
Designed with multi-role flexibility in mind, the AW139 offers the largest cabin in its class, according to AgustaWestland. It also features a maximum cruise speed of 306 km per hour and a maximum range of 1,061 km.
So far, approximately 100 international customers from 40 different countries have placed orders for more than 400 AW139s.
Recently, the Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society in Canada took delivery of its first of two AW139s. The helicopters were equipped with custom medical interiors. |
