AN aircraft maintenance centre is to be built in India by NACIL and EADS to build
The National Aviation Company of India Limited (NACIL) and European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS) have announced plans to create a Aircraft Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) Centre.
The organisations signed a Joint Venture Agreement today (October 16th) to create the MRO centre, with operations due to start at the beginning of next year.
It will be created at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi and eventually become a Member of Airbus MRO Network.
To begin with, the joint venture will maintain and repair NACIL's Airbus aircraft, before later expanding to deal with other types of aircraft.
By 2013, approximately ten wide body aircraft and more than 100 single aisle aircraft would be maintained at the centre every year, staffed by around 300 people.
In a statement, NACIL commented: "This first-of-a-kind Joint Venture Airframe MRO in the country is of immense importance in todays growing aviation market. With the setting-up of this facility at Delhi, NACIL will see an increased availability of aircraft following reduction in major maintenance check times through enhanced productivity."
NACIL is currently welcoming 43 new Airbus A320 Family aircraft into its fleet, with the induction due to finish in the early part of 2010.
