Porter Airlines converts Bombardier options
Friday, 03 October 2008

Porter Airlines has converted a further two options for Bombardier Q400 aircraft into firm orders.

Bombardier Aerospace has announced that Toronto-based Porter Airlines has signed a new contract to convert existing options for two 70-seat Q400 turboprop aircraft into firm orders.

This is the fourth such conversion of options that Porter has completed in 2008, following on from an original order placed in 2006 for ten firm and ten options. The new aircraft will be the 17th and 18th Q400s in the airline's fleet upon delivery.

Based on current list prices for the Bombardier aircraft, the contract is valued at approximately $52 million (£29 million).

Gary Scott, president of Bombardier's commercial aircraft division, explained that the backlog for the Q400 now exceeds 100 units.

"The Q400 airliner's quiet performance, 360 knot (667 km/h) cruise speed, fuel efficiency and lower emissions position it as the benchmark aircraft for short-haul travel," he added.

To date, Bombardier has recorded 322 firm orders for the Q400 and Q400 NextGen airliners, with 210 deliveries having been completed as of the beginning of August 2008.
