PW providing F117 engine support
Friday, 17 October 2008

PW is set to provide F117 engine support for the C-17 aircraft fleet.

The Boeing Company has awarded Pratt & Whitney (PW) with a $1.4 billion (£809 million) contract to provide through-life support for the engines in its fleet of C-17 Globemaster III aircraft.

The maintenance agreement covers the F117 engines for one year, with the option to extend through to 2011.

Bill Begert, vice-president of business development and international programmes at PW, noted that the contract - an extension to a previous one - would allow the company's F117 team to continue ensuring "engine availability, reliability and maintainability".

We are very proud to continue our support of The Boeing Company and we are always mindful of the significance of quality, reliability and performance to the men and women in uniform, our ultimate customer," he added.

As of April 2008, Boeing had manufactured some 179 C-17 Globemaster II aircraft. Each of the airlifters is powered by four F117-PW-100 turbofan engines, which are based on the commercial PW2040 that is used to power the Boeing 757 jet.ADNFCR-1516-ID-18831856-ADNFCR
