Rolls-Royce embarks on new engine controls venture
Thursday, 14 August 2008

Rolls-Royce will form a joint venture company with Goodrich Corporation to develop and supply controls for its aero engines.

Engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce has announced plans for a new joint venture with the Goodrich Corporation, a US aerospace and defence company, to develop and supply engine controls for its products.

The proposed venture would see the two firms closely integrate their engine controls activity, combining Goodrich's engine control design and manufacturing processes with Rolls-Royce's expertise in the integration of engine components.

Colin Smith, director of engineering and technology at Rolls-Royce, said: "This proposed joint venture would allow us to align our activities more closely, and reflects the importance we attach to the engine control system in optimising engine performance."

Under the proposals, each party will own 50 per cent of the venture company. Curtis Reusser, segment president for electronics systems at Goodrich, added that closer integration between the two companies will provide more efficient delivery of engine control systems.

Last month, Rolls-Royce unveiled the new Turbine 340, an executive transport aircraft from O&N Aircraft Modifications powered by its Model 250 turboprop engine, at the EAA AirVenture show.ADNFCR-1516-ID-18733213-ADNFCR
