The Light Helicopter Turbine Engine Company has achieved certification for its CTS800-4N engine.
The Light Helicopter Turbine Engine Company (LHTEC), a joint venture between Honeywell and Rolls-Royce, has achieved European Aviation Safety Agency type certification for its new CTS800-4N engine.
The engine was ordered by the UK's Ministry of Defence (MoD) for fitting in its Future Lynx helicopter fleet. It previously ordered some 70 twin-engine Future Lynx tactical and maritime helicopters from AgustaWestland (AW).
The LHTEC delivered the first CTS800-4N to AW in April 2008, but the helicopters are not due to enter service until 2011.
Ken Roberts, president of Rolls-Royce's helicopter business, said: "Type certification clears the way for aircraft testing and production deliveries and demonstrates tat this engine performs exactly as it was designed to do."
The LHTEC CTS800-4N turboshaft engine is equipped with full-authority digital engine control to reduce pilot workload and was recently selected to power AW T129 helicopters, as part of the Turkish Tactical Reconnaissance and Attack Helicopter programme.
Lynx helicopters were first introduced into service in 1978 by aviation firm Westland. They are used by the armed forces in more than a dozen countries. |
