Rolls-Royce wins lucrative contract
Wednesday, 05 November 2008

The engine manufacturer has received large orders from customers in China.

Engine-maker Rolls-Royce has announced new orders from Chinese customers worth more than $400 million (£) in total.

It will provide Trent 700 engines worth more than $180 million for five Airbus A330 freighters ordered by BOC Aviation, while also filling a $230 million order for V2500 engines placed by Sichuan Airlines.

Robert Martin, of BOC Aviation, said: “The popularity of the Trent 700 with operators around the world ensures BOC Aviation can not only meet the demands of its customers but that they, in turn, benefit from utilising the market-leading engine on this airframe.”

The airline's fleet now includes 14 Trent-powered widebody jets, in addition to 43 V2500-equipped Airbus A320 family aircraft.

Sichuan Airlines, meanwhile, has selected the V2500 engine to power up to 18 Airbus A320 airliners, depending upon which options are exercised.

The contract includes aftermarket services for the aircraft in question, as well as 15 A320s already with the airline.

The V2500 is produced by International Aero Engines, a consortium made up of Rolls-Royce, Pratt & Whitney, MTU Aero Engines of Germany and the Japanese Aero Engines Corporation.

Currently the V2500, which powers Airbus A320 family aircraft and McDonnell Douglas MD-90s, is its only engine product.ADNFCR-1516-ID-18861128-ADNFCR
