Brazil will select a new fighter jet for its air force through the F-X2 competition.
Aerospace company Saab has announced its intention to submit a tender to Brazil for its Gripen fighter aircraft.
In response to a formal Request for Proposal for the supply of new fighter aircrafts from the country's air force, Saab will submit a bid including the provision of 36 Gripen next-generation jets.
"Saab will submit a bid
to meet the requirement for future multi-role fighter aircraft for the Brazilian Air Force," said Lennart Sindahl, executive vice-president of the company.
"We are convinced that Gripen NG is the perfect fit for Brazil's future needs," he added.
The Brazilian Air Force expects to receive tenders for its F-X2 programme from Saab, Boeing - for its F/A-18E/F Super Hornet - and Dassault - for its Rafale.
With a decision likely to be made next year, any contract that is won could be incredibly lucrative - Brazil could order up to 120 aircraft in total. |
