Istanbul-based Saga Airlines has ordered two Boeing 737-800s and secured purchase rights for two more.
The Boeing Company has announced that Saga Airlines, a Turkish operator based in Istanbul, has signed an order for two Boeing 737-800 aircraft with blended winglets.
As well as the two firm orders, Saga also secured two purchase rights for the same model in an order valued at $149 million (£84.5 million) in total, based on current list prices.
Saga now has six aircraft in its fleet, four of which are Boeing 737s. It conducts wet lease operations in a number of countries - whereby it provides aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance to other airlines who pay for hours operated.
"The Boeing 737-800 offers Saga the perfect complementary qualities of fuel efficiency, industry-leading reliability and low-maintenance costs and it represents the ideal choice for Saga's growth requirements," said Marlin Dailey, vice-president of European sales at Boeing.
The next-generation 737-800 is the most popular single jet airliner, with close to 5,000 orders having been placed to date. Last month, Brazil's Varig Airlines received two 737-800s with blended winglets and a short-field performance package designed for short runway takeoffs and landings. |
