Sikorsky completes first flight with new helicopter

Sikorsky has successfully completed its first flight of a new Naval Hawk helicopter.

Rotorcraft manufacturer Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation has successfully completed it first flight of a new Naval Hawk helicopter at the company's military derivatives completion centre (MDCC).

The helicopter, produced at the MDCC, is a military derivative of the S-70B helicopter. It achieved first flight on August 28th, and is scheduled to be delivered to the first international military customer during the first quarter of 2009.

The MDCC, branded the Hawk Works by Sikorsky, is the company's primary completion centre for all of its military helicopter derivatives.

"This is a very exciting and busy time here," said Randy Simpson, general manager of Hawk Works. "We have been eagerly awaiting our first flight and look forward to many more milestones here at the MDCC."

Last month, Sikorsky achieved first flight of its new X2 Technology Demonstrator, maneuvering the prototype through hover, forward flight and hover turn capabilities.
