Sikorsky completes first test new Black Hawk
Tuesday, 02 September 2008

Sikorsky has successfully completed the first flight of its new UH-60M Upgrade Black Hawk helicopter.

Rotorcraft manufacturer Sikorsky has announced successful completion of the maiden flight of its new UH-60M Upgrade, the latest variant in the Black Hawk helicopter family.

Currently the only fly-by-wire rotary wing aircraft in flight test development within the US Armed Forces, the next-generation Black Hawk helicopter was designed to offer greater response and flexibility during military operations.

During its 60-minute test flight, the helicopter was maneuvered through a number of exercises including hover, forward flight and hover turn by Mike Skaggs, chief test pilot at Sikorsky.

"The UH-60M Upgrade will reduce pilot workload, increase lift, offer better protection and enhance survivability," said Jeffrey Pino, president of the aviation company.

"The next generation of Black Hawk helicopters is ideally suited for its mission and will provide a safer, more responsive, deployable, versatile and effective weapon system for the army."

Recently, Helicopter Support Inc, a subsidiary of Sikorsky, announced the sale of 12 extended-range aircraft fuel tanks to the Colombian Air Force, for installation on Bell Huey II helicopters.
