Snecma and Volvo Aero sign key agreement
Tuesday, 30 June 2009

Snecma and Volvo Aero have agreed the basic principles of a five-year space propulsion partnership.

The partnership involves the production of 37 nozzles and 37 turbines.

Volvo Aero will manufacture the parts in Trollhatten from 2009 to 2014, in what is expected to be a lucrative deal worth hundreds of millions of Swedish kronor.

The partnership was finalised following the Swedish government's commitment to remaining in the Ariane space program.

Leif Johansson, program director at Volvo, said: "We are extremely pleased with this support from the Swedish government. It was a condition for Volvo and Snecma’s discussions on continuing our partnership.

"We are now ready to develop the next generation of Ariane rockets together."

Volvo Aero will deliver all turbines and nozzles for the Vulcain 2 engine of the Ariane 5 rockets.

Guarantees have also been made to Snecma regarding deliveries over the next five years.
