The Brazilian Air Force is considering between the F/A-18E/F Block II Super Hornet and two other jets for its new fighter competition.
The Boeing Company has announced that its F/A-18E/F Block II Super Hornet has been selected as one of three aircraft to be evaluated by the Brazilian Air Force following a request for proposals.
Brazil's F-X2 fighter competition will be resolved by late 2009. Initially, the country will require winning contractor to provide 36 fighter jets, a figure that could potentially rise up to 120.
Bob Gower, vice-president of F/A-18 and EA-18 programmes, said: "Boeing is honoured that Brazil has selected the Super Hornet as a finalist for the next phase of the F-X2 competition.
"This selection reinforces the Super Hornet's ability to meet the operational requirements of the Brazilian Air Force and the forward-leaning stance of the US government regarding transparency and technology release," he added.
This month, Boeing announced that it is combining the various aviation training groups within Boeing Commercial Airplanes with wholly owned subsidiary Alteon, to form a new training organisation that will retain the Alteon name. |
