US Army orders CH-47F Chinooks from Boeing
Wednesday, 27 August 2008

The Boeing Company has won a five-year contract to provide the US Army with 181 CH-47F Chinook helicopters.

The US Army has signed a five-year contract with aviation company Boeing for the provision of 181 CH-47F Chinook attack helicopters.

In addition to the contract - which is valued at approximately $4.3 billion (£2.3 billion) based on current list prices and includes options for an additional 24 aircraft - Boeing will provide ten additional Chinooks under supplemental funding.

Jack Dougherty, vice-president of Boeing's H-47 programmes, said: "This multiyear award will yield a cost saving of more than $449 million (£243 million) for the US Army.

"This also builds security into our production schedule for the next five years, stabilising the work force for Boeing and for our supplier partners."

As a result of the contract, Boeing has entered into long-term agreements for specialty materials, including titanium, which will significantly reduce long-lead times for production of the helicopters and improve parts availability.

Earlier this month, Boeing's commercial arm finalised a deal with American Airlines for the delivery of 26 next-generation 737-800s, aircraft that will help the carrier reach its fleet renewal goals.ADNFCR-1516-ID-18750529-ADNFCR
