Airbus has delivered an A320 jetliner to Mexican budget airline Volaris.
Volaris, a low-fare airline based in Mexico, received its first Airbus A320 at aa ceremony in Toulouse this week.
The aircraft was part of an order placed by the airline in January 2006 for 16 new A319s, which was renewed during 2007 to include 14 more A320 family jets.
Volaris currently operates an all-Airbus fleet of 18 A319s. The new A320, which was delivered in a single-class configuration, will operate on the company's high-density routes out of Toluca.
Tom Enders, president of Airbus, said that the A320 family provides the "ideal mix in terms of performance, reliability, flexibility and great economics".
"The extra cabin space makes the A320 the preferred choice for passengers," he added.
To date, over 6,300 Airbus A320 family aircraft - including the A318, A319, A320 and A321 - have been sold and over 3,600 delivered to customers worldwide.
Last month, French Caribbean carrier Air Caraibes ordered three A350-1000 aircraft, which will be operated on routes between Paris and the islands of Guadeloupe, Martinique and French Guyana. |
