MoD awards C-130 contract
Wednesday, 20 August 2008

The UK MoD has awarded a contract worth nearly £10 million to L-3 Communications for modifications to three C-130K aircraft.

Aerospace and defence company L-3 Communications has won a contract from the UK ministry of defence (MoD) worth £9.6 million for the replacement of the outer wings on three C-130K aircraft.

The US company is a major supplier to the MoD and will conduct the outer wing refurbishment at its Spar facility in Alberta, Canada. The wings are being reconditioned to meet the Royal Air Force's Hercules outer wing replacement plan.

"The provision of outer wings will extend the life of a number of essential operational aircraft to meet their planned out-of-service date," said Group Captain Mark Hobbs, team leader of the Hercules integrated project.

"L-3 Spar offered us the opportunity to provide this war-winning capability in a cost-effective manner. I am pleased that L-3 Spar has demonstrated their undoubted ability to perform this essential task for the MoD."

Spar is a service and upgrade centre dedicated to the C-130 Hercules. It delivers maintenance, repair and overhaul services, as well as engineering support solutions.ADNFCR-1516-ID-18742352-ADNFCR
