The Boeing Company has delivered a proposal offering the Brazilian Air Force its F/A-18E/F Super Hornet.
Aviation company Boeing has sent the Brazilian Air Force (BAF) a detailed proposal offering its advanced F/A-18E/F Super Hornet fighter jet as part of Brazil's F-X2 fighter competition.
Brazil sent Boeing a request for information in June about the possibility of utilising the fighter aircraft. The request indicated an initial requirement for 36 aircraft with the possibility of up to 120 in total.
Boeing is offering Brazil a variant of the aircraft based on the Block II F/A-18E/F, which is flown by the US Navy and has been ordered by the Royal Australian Air Force.
Bob Gower, F/A-18 and EA-18 programmes vice-president at Boeing, said: "International interest in the combat-proven Super Hornet continues to increase, and Boeing is honoured Brazil is considering the Super Hornet to meet its near-term defence requirements."
The company has delivered more than 360 Super Hornets to the navy and is currently building 24 F/A-18Fs for Australia.
The aircraft was developed in the early 1990s by McDonnel Douglas and achieved first flight in 1995. It entered into service in 1999, two years after the company's merger with Boeing. |
